Anita Tarcsi-Demeter is a leather artist working in traditional leathercraft. A graduate of the Nádudvar Folk Handicrafts Vocational High School, she trained under Tamás Benő, developing a material-led practice spanning belt making, tannery, and fur work.
Alongside her studio practice, Anita is dedicated to teaching and preserving craft knowledge through workshops, leadership roles in the Folk Art Association of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, and her Kicsi Dió Handicraft Creative House in Bocskaikert, both based in northeastern Hungary. Her work reflects a deep engagement with Hungarian folk traditions and the interconnected nature of material techniques, informed in part by research into North American Indigenous leatherwork at the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest.
As a recipient of the 2026 Réka Darida Legacy Award, she will continue her research into leather and fur traditions from northeastern Hungary and Transylvania (Romania), resulting in a winter bridal collection, a reconstructed men’s vest, and contemporary leather accessories inspired by historical embroidery.
